"Utility outfielder Ron Woods was obtained from the Detroit Tigers last June in exchange for Tom Tresh. An outstanding defensive outfielder, Woods showed what he could do for the Yanks last year by handling 137 chances flawlessly and making tough catches look easy.
Ron has shown some power with the bat but he hasn't put it all together yet. When he does he will be hard to keep out of the starting lineup. He hit .290 in his last two years in the minors.
Ron lives in Los Angeles, is married and the father of six-year-old Ronnie, Jr."
-The New York Yankees Official 1970 Yearbook
"Obtained from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Tom Tresh in June 1969, Ron was originally signed by the Pirates in 1961. He went to Detroit in a minor league trade in the spring of 1966.
Ron proved valuable to the Yanks as an outstanding defensive center fielder. He handled 137 chances flawlessly and made many tough catches look quite easy. He played winter ball in Puerto Rico, where he made the All-Star team. If he hits for a higher average he will be tough to keep out of the starting lineup; he hit over .290 in his last two years in the minor leagues.
Ron played against Roy White in high school."
