1967 Profile: Steve Hamilton

"Popular Steve Hamilton was one Yankee who had a fine year in 1966. Certainly, the last place finish of the Yanks was a source of unhappiness to the 6'7" southpaw, but his personal contributions to the club's cause included a team-leading 8-3 won-lost record, a yield of only 69 hits and 22 walks in 90 innings pitched, and 57 strikeouts with a 3.00 ERA.
In fact, Hamilton has been a mighty effective man in relief for the Yankees ever since being obtained from Washington (in exchange for Jim Coates) in April of 1963. Going into the current campaign, Steve had an overall 23-7 record in Yankee pinstripes, and an earned run average under 3.00.
Now the Yankees' player representative, Steve is a former cage star with the old Minneapolis Lakers and still serves in the off-season as assistant basketball coach for his alma mater, Morehead State College (Kentucky)."

MY GREATEST THRILL
"My most memorable day in baseball was my first appearance for the Washington Senators on May 6, 1962. I had left Jacksonville at 7:00 A.M. on a flight to New York, taken a cab from Newark Airport, missing our batting practice at Yankee Stadium. I came on in relief in the eighth inning with a two-run lead. I remember facing Mantle, Berra, Howard and Maris - and Roger was the only one who got on base."
