"The future of the Yankees is down on the farm. A vast investment in dollars, manpower and training is going into the Yankees' minor league farm and player development program.
The Yankees have expanded their vast scouting system to close to three dozen full-time scouts plus many more part-time bird dogs.
Not many Yankees step directly from school or the sandlots into historic Yankee Stadium. To speed the progress of the young players, the Yankees employ top-notch minor league managers, special roving instructors and coaches to help the youngsters polish the rough edges.
Lee MacPhail, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, and Johnny Johnson, Vice-President, Minor League Operations, are constantly checking on the development of young Yankee minor leaguers. They also carefully check the reports of scouts on prospects who choose baseball as a career."
