1967 Profile: Bill Robinson

"The Yankees believe they have filled a long-time need for a strong right-handed hitter with the acquisition of Bill Robinson from the Atlanta Braves' organization. The tall, lean and graceful outfielder hits with power, fields well and throws with exceptional skill.
In giving up Clete Boyer to obtain the 23-year-old Pennsylvanian, the Yankees took a calculated risk. Robinson, the scouts have said, will become an outstanding major league outfielder. His addition to the Yankee picket line gives the Bombers depth in the outfield.
Unfortunately, Bill suffered a bone chip in the right elbow playing winter ball and surgery was necessary last January 18. Advised to start slowly in spring training, young Robinson was ahead of schedule and was able to fill in for ailing Tom Tresh in left field in March.
He was an International League All-Star last year as a Braves' prospect, and he hit .312 at Richmond after leading the Northwest League in 1964 with a .348 mark."

-The New York Yankees Official 1967 Yearbook

Originally signed by the Milwaukee Braves, 1961.
Named to the All-Star team in the International League, 1966.
Acquired by the Yankees from the Braves, along with pitcher Chi-Chi Olivo, in exchange for third baseman Clete Boyer, November 1966.
Underwent surgery for removal of a bone chip in his right elbow, January 1967.

-1967 New York Yankees Press-TV-Radio Guide

"The Yankees thought of Robinson to trade Clete Boyer to the Braves in order to get him. Said to have one of the finest throwing arms in baseball, Robinson hit .312 for Richmond of the International League last season and is slated to alternate with Steve Whitaker in right field for the Yankees this year."
