"Rudy May tied Nolan Ryan for the shutout leadership on the California Angel pitching staff last season but found himself a victim of inactivity in 1974. The Yankees obtained him at the trading deadline, and Rudy took off from there.
He made his debut on June 23 and stopped Detroit on four hits. Next time out, another four-hitter, this time against Baltimore. Then came a six-hit victory at Texas. An injury finally forced him to the disabled list for three weeks, an injury that came as a severe blow to the Yankee cause. That kind of pitching, no one can do without.
The 30-year-old left-hander from Coffeyville, Kansas is a hard thrower who once struck out 16 batters in a single game. He was the senior member of the Angels at the time of his purchase, having been obtained in a trade for Bo Belinsky in 1964."
