"He's been one third of the pitching staff the last two years- the other two-thirds, of course, has been Gaylord. Dick won 14 games in each of his first two seasons. With a good fastball, his slider makes him a very tough pitcher when he gets it to spots.
Born in San Francisco, Tidrow attended Chabot J.C. in Hayward, California. He curiously spent parts of five seasons with Reno of the California League. He then became Sporting News Rookie Pitcher of the Year in '72."
-Peter Gammons, The Complete Handbook of Baseball, 1974 Edition
"The number two man behind Gaylord Perry on Cleveland's pitching staff during the past two seasons, Dick Tidrow came over to the Yankees late in April to serve as both a starter and a long reliever. The 6'4" right-hander had started 74 games since breaking into the majors in 1972 as the Rookie Pitcher of the Year in the American League. His 23-31 record during two full seasons in Cleveland was impressive in view of the Indians being 32 games under .500 during that period.
Dick is a native of San Francisco, is 27 years old and has a strong arm. The Yankees were happy to add him to their pitching staff."
