"Side-arming Cecil Upshaw has never started a game in the major leagues, and that's a tribute to this relief specialist who broke in with the Braves in 1967, and had pitched 283 games in relief when the Yankees obtained him on April 26.
Cecil is a big 6'6' right-hander with a business degree from Centenary College in Shreveport, where he played both baseball and basketball. An injury to his right ring finger in 1970 almost ended his career, but a series of operations brought him back. After six years with Atlanta, he went to Houston in 1973 and Cleveland last December."
