"Doyle Alexander made a fast impression on Yankee fans - he almost threw a perfect game in his first start in Yankee Stadium, retiring the first 21 batters he faced. What more could you ask from a man who figures to be a spot starter and a relief man? What a way to break in!
Doyle originally signed with the Dodger organization and went to Baltimore in 1972 as the key man in the trade that sent Frank Robinson to Los Angeles. He pitched in two Championship Series for the Orioles and had his best year in 1973 when he was 12-8. Another big trade has found him wearing a Yankee jersey, and hopefully, the postseason will again find him working into the month of October.
Doyle is 25 years old and a native of Alabama."
