1976 New York Yankees Program and Scorecard Notes

WELCOME
"The New York Yankees take great pride in welcoming you to the 'new' Yankee Stadium. This magnificent park, reconstructed between October 1973 and April 1976 can now boast of the greatest features in comfort and enjoyment for fans, while still retaining the historic character which makes it the most famous sports arena in America.
Yankee Stadium first opened in 1923, and the Yankees went on to win the first of 20 World Championships that year. Scores of great ballplayers have worn the Yankee uniform over the years, with the legendary Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig-Joe DiMaggio-Mickey Mantle link forming a tradition of greatness.
Today's Yankees proudly wear the same uniforms and are now back in the same ballpark - with the added benefit of playing in a park built for the fans' comfort.
We welcome you today to the 74th season of Yankee baseball ... back home where we belong."

OLD TIMERS' DAY
"Nearly a dozen major league teams celebrate Old Timers Day now, but the granddaddy of them all is the Yankee' affair - this year celebrating the 30th reunion of old-time players. The first Yankee Old Timers' Day was the famous 1939 tribute to Lou Gehrig, which reunited his 1927 teammates. In 1947, Larry MacPhail instituted the event on an annual basis, and it's been a highlight of the summer in New York ever since.
This year's event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, August 7, when the Yankees face Baltimore in the regularly scheduled game. The festivities will begin at 1:15 P.M. and the theme, of course, is a celebration of the new Yankee Stadium. Men who participated in great moments in the old Yankee Stadium will be invited back - for the enjoyment of the fans and for an opportunity to view the new park. It's a day which figures to be equally enjoyed by fans and participants. The guest list, as always, will begin to be announced in July.
Regular ticket prices are in effect for the game and ceremonies, and tickets are available at all Yankee ticket outlets."

Fans over 62 years of age showing proper identification will be admitted to the park for a 50 cents service charge."

CURACAO
"An untapped source of new talent? The Yankees are broadening their horizons in the scouting area, and this spring they invited two prospects to the minor league camp from the island of Curacao, off the northeast coast of South America. The Yankees are intent on going anywhere at any time to sign good young talent."

CATFISH AND EASTER SEAL
"The Yankees' own Jim 'Catfish' Hunter is the National Sports Chairman for the 1976 Easter Seal Campaign. On behalf of the nation's handicapped children and adults, Jim is participating in a program urging support of the annual Easter Seal appeal which provides funds for rehabilitation services."

YANKEE STADIUM STEEL
"There's a lot of steel in Yankee Stadium - 1,600 tons of reinforced steel, and 2,800 tons of spot-welded steel decking, representing the main, canopy and scoreboard roofs. It was the entry of structural steel box columns installed behind the seating area that made possible the removal of the old interior columns."

YANKEE SCOREBOARD
"To help you enjoy today's game, you certainly can't miss the show put on by the new Yankee Stadium scoreboard. It's 560 feet long and 24 feet high, except for the dramatic Telescreen in the center which reaches a height of 40 feet.
Designed by Conrac Corporation, the board is the most modern, up-to-date facility in any stadium in the country. And while capturing the new, the board - like Yankee Stadium itself - holds onto the proud Yankee history, with the famous facade gracing the top of the board.
The Telescreen is your message board. It will provide you with lineups, out-of-town scores, bulletins, messages, information - and animation. The board also has instant replay capability, which provides a 40-foot television picture of play on the field.
The entire scoreboard is operated by a team working out of the press box.
Flanking the Telescreen are the games in progress board and the official Seiko clocks.
The board is designed to add to your total enjoyment of the game, without forgetting that the field of play is where all the action originates!"

YANKEE STADIUM GROUND RULES
"Foul poles are outside the playing field. Any batted ball hitting a foul pole above the fence is a home run. A ball sticking in or going through the wire screen in front of the bleachers - two bases. Bat racks are within the dugouts.
Any thrown ball hitting the railing or the dugout foundation and rebounding onto the field is in play. Any ball going into the dugout or hitting other parts of the dugout - out of play."
