Greetings:
The 1988 season was one that will be long remembered by Albany baseball fans. New ownership, a mid-season managerial change, Dave Eiland to the majors, all-stars Stankiewicz, Maas, Azocar, and Albany's first Eastern League championship since 1954.
The 1989 season will be Albany's 30th in the Eastern League, and its seventh since the return of professional baseball to the capital region. Will there be another championship? Who will go from Heritage Park to Yankee Stadium? Will an Albany Yankee lead the league in hitting? These are just some of the questions fans can enjoy posing as the Yankees embark on another season of Eastern League competition.
There will be a great deal of excitement at Heritage Park this season whether the Yanks repeat as champs or not. High caliber play and exciting promotional nights at the park will keep things hopping and the many Yankee fans entertained.
In 30 years of Eastern League baseball in Albany, over four million fans have chosen to spend a night at the ballpark. In 1989 that number will surely grow.

MEET THE PRESIDENT OF THE ALBANY-COLONIE YANKEES
"1989 is Paul Keating's second year as President of the Albany-Colonie Yankees. Being a lifelong baseball fan, the 1988 season was a dream come true for Paul, as the A-C Yanks won the Eastern League championship during his first year with the team.
Paul is a native of Fitchburg, Mass., where he grew up developing an interest in baseball memorabilia and statistics. He was a first baseman for his high school's baseball team. At this time, he developed an interest in track and carried it over to college. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of the track team and graduated with a degree in civil engineering.
In addition to being president of the Albany-Colonie Yankees, Keating is Treasurer and Chief Executive Officer of P.J. Keating Company and is president of the following companies: Norlite in Cohoes, Keating Materials Corp. of Dracut [Mass.], Roof Block Ltd., Keating Environmental Services and Keating Sports Group.
When speaking of the 1988 Albany-Colonie Yankees, Keating he said he was 'extremely proud of the team's championship season.' He also said that he was 'looking forward to another exciting season in 1989' and is 'glad to provide the Capital District with quality family entertainment.'
Paul lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Barbara Ann. They are the proud parents of sons Paul and Michael, and daughter Jennifer."

RALPH ACAMPORA (General Manager)
"Saying he was 'pleasantly surprised' and 'very happy with the 1988 championship season,' Ralph Acampora predicts that 'the 1989 season at Heritage Park will be even more fun and exciting for the fans than it was in 1988.' Ralph returns as the General Manager of the Albany-Colonie Yankees after a successful rookie year in 1988.
He graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut and went on to attend Providence College and Southern Connecticut University, where he received a degree in economics. He was previously associated with the construction industry, in various capacities, with the parent P.J. Keating Company before becoming Albany-Colonie's General Manager.
Ralph promises several scheduled changes and improvements at Heritage Park for the 1989 season. 'We will be managing our own concessions in an effort to keep prices more affordable and to improve services to our fans.' In addition, there will be a 'new, much-improved sound system and new musical equipment to give Heritage Park a more fan-involved, major league atmosphere.' Also new for the 1989 season will be the addition of 200 new field level seats, which have been installed along the first base line. These seats will provide fans with an excellent view of the game. 'Our goal is to make everyone's visit to Heritage Park in 1989 a pleasurable and affordable experience.'"

TIM WESTON (Trainer)
"The trainer for the 1989 Albany-Colonie Yankees is 23-year-old Tim Weston, who begins his second year in the Yankee organization. Last season Tim was at Oneonta of the New York-Penn League.
Weston is a native of Waldoboro, Maine which is about 60 miles from Portland. He is a graduate of the University of Maine, majoring in physical education and sports medicine. At Maine, Tim was a trainer for the football and hockey teams.
He says his goal is to become a major league trainer and he has a 'very positive feeling coming to Albany and is very comfortable within the Yankee organization' and 'looks forward to the challenge.'
During the off-season, Tim works in the family-run business in Waldoboro."

MEET RICK: THE A-C YANKEES MUSIC MAN
"National award-winning musician and composer Rick Angerami is this season's Albany-Colonie Yankee music maker.
Rick has been using his talents in jazz and contemporary electronic music to entertain audiences throughout the northeast and he brings his unique style to Heritage Park to entertain our baseball fans using music and humor with a 'high tech' twist. Our new electronic music instruments will surely entertain you over the new sound system all season long.
Rick is the originator and creator of soundpainting stories which have been touring schools and institutions throughout New York State.
For his work in jazz and electronic music, Angerami has won awards and commissions from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts and Meet the Composer.
It will surely be an entertaining summer with Rick at the keyboard high atop Heritage Park."

A-C GOOD LUCK CHARM
"The story on how the Albany-Colonie Yankees surged to finish in fourth place to make the Eastern League playoffs is pretty well known. They parlayed that finish into an Eastern League championship, beating Glens Falls and Vermont and laying claim to the Balfour trophy for a year.
In every championship situation no matter what the sport, luck plays a part and A-C had its good luck charm during that stretch run of good fortune. The good luck charm turned out to be a rather large and very lost dog that wandered into Heritage Park one day about the middle of August. True, the animal looked like it had had a couple of bad days, but it looked well fed and was friendly and smart as she could be. We scanned the area newspapers to see if someone had reported the dog lost. A-C General Manager Ralph Acampora and wife Isabelle, who live in the county, took the dog home. The Acamporas conducted an exhaustive search for the dog's owner and when it was realized one was not coming forth, the dog had a permanent home.
The dog was named 'Yankee' and after subsequent visits to the vet, it was learned the dog is a pure bread Labrador Retriever about a year and a half old, who now lives the good life.
With the arrival of Yankee at Heritage Park, the Albany-Colonie Yanks went ten and one at home including four playoff victories and the E.L. Championship. Yankee turned out to be the good luck charm for A-C as the team turned it around in late August and took home the bacon. Good luck charms come from all kinds of situations and our Yankee certainly brought some good fortune to Heritage Park. Don't be surprised to see Yankee around the park a lot in '89."

The umpires are much like the players in regards to their effort to work their way to the major leagues. Baseball's Umpire Development Program recruits the top students from various umpire schools and assigns them to the rookie leagues and short-season Class A Leagues. As the umpires refine their skills, they move up through the system- rookie, A, AA, AAA- and for the most talented, the major leagues."

A/C YANKEE BROADCASTS
"Dale McConachie will handle the play-by-play for the A-C Yanks in 1989 over 1460 stereo WGNA.
The Minnesota native comes to the Capital District from the Texas League, where in 1988 he did play-by-play for the Wichita Pilots, the San Diego Padres' Double A entry.
For the past 11 years Dale has engaged in play-by-play sports, doing pro baseball, college and high school football, basketball, hockey and wrestling. For three years he was the Sports Director for the largest FM radio station in Minneapolis, WCTS.
Dale says he is 'excited to be with such a strong professional organization and be associated with Capital District sports. He adds, 'it will be a lot of fun broadcasting Albany-Colonie Yankee baseball to the very knowledgeable northeast fans.'
Dale is a native of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where he lettered in high school football, basketball and baseball and lettered in baseball at Northland Community College. Dale and his wife Geri live in Waterford."

ALBANY-COLONIE YANKEES HOST E.L. ALL-STAR GAME
"Monday evening, June 26, Heritage Park will be the sight of the 1989 Eastern League All-Star Game. This will be the 23rd E.L. All-Star Game, and the sixth since the game was reinstated in 1983. The 1983 contest was also hosted by Albany, as 6,753 fans saw the Eastern League All-Stars lose to the International League's Columbus Clippers.
The format of this year's game will be slightly different from the past, as the 1989 Albany-Colonie Yankees will be facing All-Stars from the rest of the Eastern League.
Several past E.L. All-Stars have made it up to the majors, including Cory Snyder (Waterbury 1985, Cleveland 1986), Wally Joyner (Waterbury 1984, California 1986) and, from the 1988 Albany-Colonie Yankees, Dave Eiland who pitched for the New York Yankees late last season.
Be sure to come out and cheer on your hometown Yankees as they take on the Eastern League's best."

"Family Night will be held on Thursday, August 17, against the New Britain Red Sox. That night will feature the famed baseball clown, Max Patkin, whose rubber antics [sic] will keep you amused all night long. Moviegoers will remember Max, as he had a role in Bull Durham.

"Senior Citizens Nights for the 1989 Albany-Colonie Yankee season will all fall on a Tuesday Night.
Fans 60 years of age or older will be admitted to A-C home games for one dollar. Senior citizens will also be able to buy the A-C Yankees Yearbook for the special price of one dollar. If they bring their grandchildren, age 16 and under, they too get into the park for one dollar."

A-C YANKS CHAMPS WITH THE COMMUNITY
"On a warm summer night in June of '88, the Albany-Colonie Yankees staged their first annual event for an area charity. When the dust had cleared, the junior Yanks presented a check to the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organizations for $27,725.00, the result of a charity softball game held at Heritage Park. It featured Lou Piniella, who the next day was named New York Yankee manager again, Boston Celtic basketball great John Havlicek, and hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr.
What transpired that night was a group of businessmen from the Capital District and the Boston, Massachusetts area playing against each other in a softball game, the Yankees vs. the Red Sox, so to speak. Through the generous efforts of these businessmen, the results speak for themselves. The softball game, plus a mid-winter event attended by Piniella, raised over $30,000 on behalf of the Big Brothers-Sisters organization.
There will be another charity event at Heritage Park this summer that will be every bit as exciting a night as was held last year. Watch for our announcements."

A/C YANKEE BROADCASTS
"Dale McConachie will handle the play-by-play for the A-C Yanks in 1989 over 1460 stereo WGNA.
The Minnesota native comes to the Capital District from the Texas League, where in 1988 he did play-by-play for the Wichita Pilots, the San Diego Padres' Double A entry.
For the past 11 years Dale has engaged in play-by-play sports, doing pro baseball, college and high school football, basketball, hockey and wrestling. For three years he was the Sports Director for the largest FM radio station in Minneapolis, WCTS.
Dale says he is 'excited to be with such a strong professional organization and be associated with Capital District sports. He adds, 'it will be a lot of fun broadcasting Albany-Colonie Yankee baseball to the very knowledgeable northeast fans.'
Dale is a native of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where he lettered in high school football, basketball and baseball and lettered in baseball at Northland Community College. Dale and his wife Geri live in Waterford."

ALBANY-COLONIE YANKEES HOST E.L. ALL-STAR GAME
"Monday evening, June 26, Heritage Park will be the sight of the 1989 Eastern League All-Star Game. This will be the 23rd E.L. All-Star Game, and the sixth since the game was reinstated in 1983. The 1983 contest was also hosted by Albany, as 6,753 fans saw the Eastern League All-Stars lose to the International League's Columbus Clippers.
The format of this year's game will be slightly different from the past, as the 1989 Albany-Colonie Yankees will be facing All-Stars from the rest of the Eastern League.
Several past E.L. All-Stars have made it up to the majors, including Cory Snyder (Waterbury 1985, Cleveland 1986), Wally Joyner (Waterbury 1984, California 1986) and, from the 1988 Albany-Colonie Yankees, Dave Eiland who pitched for the New York Yankees late last season.
Be sure to come out and cheer on your hometown Yankees as they take on the Eastern League's best."

"Family Night will be held on Thursday, August 17, against the New Britain Red Sox. That night will feature the famed baseball clown, Max Patkin, whose rubber antics [sic] will keep you amused all night long. Moviegoers will remember Max, as he had a role in Bull Durham.
This is Max's last go round, so make sure you make it out on Family Night to see one of his final appearances."

"Senior Citizens Nights for the 1989 Albany-Colonie Yankee season will all fall on a Tuesday Night.
Fans 60 years of age or older will be admitted to A-C home games for one dollar. Senior citizens will also be able to buy the A-C Yankees Yearbook for the special price of one dollar. If they bring their grandchildren, age 16 and under, they too get into the park for one dollar."

A-C YANKS CHAMPS WITH THE COMMUNITY
"On a warm summer night in June of '88, the Albany-Colonie Yankees staged their first annual event for an area charity. When the dust had cleared, the junior Yanks presented a check to the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organizations for $27,725.00, the result of a charity softball game held at Heritage Park. It featured Lou Piniella, who the next day was named New York Yankee manager again, Boston Celtic basketball great John Havlicek, and hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr.
What transpired that night was a group of businessmen from the Capital District and the Boston, Massachusetts area playing against each other in a softball game, the Yankees vs. the Red Sox, so to speak. Through the generous efforts of these businessmen, the results speak for themselves. The softball game, plus a mid-winter event attended by Piniella, raised over $30,000 on behalf of the Big Brothers-Sisters organization.
There will be another charity event at Heritage Park this summer that will be every bit as exciting a night as was held last year. Watch for our announcements."
