"Pressed into service as a starting pitcher, LaRoche broke the team mark for most games, set by Nolan Ryan. He was an outstanding reliever in 1978 but plagued by bad luck in '79. He depends mainly on his fastball.
Born in Colorado Springs, LaRoche came up through the Angels' farm system but was traded to Minnesota. He bounced from the Twins to the Cubs to the Indians before returning to the Angels. He's twice been named to the American League All-Star team."
