WELCOME
"The New York Yankees take great pride in welcoming you to the 'new' Yankee Stadium. This magnificent park, reconstructed between October 1973 and April 1976 can now boast of the greatest features in comfort and enjoyment for fans, while still retaining the historic character which makes it the most famous sports arena in America.
Yankee Stadium first opened in 1923, and the Yankees went on to win their first of 20 World Championships that year. Scores of great ballplayers have worn the Yankee uniform over the years, with the legendary Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig-Joe DiMaggio-Mickey Mantle link forming a tradition of greatness.
Today's Yankees proudly wear the same uniforms and are now back in the same ballpark - with the added benefit of playing in a park built for the fans' comfort.
We welcome you today to the 75th season of Yankee baseball."

SPECIAL PROMOTIONS
"Among the outstanding highlights of any Yankee season are the special attraction and give-away days. And 1977 is no exception with six of these popular events scattered throughout the schedule. There's something for everyone in this all-star lineup with equipment days for all youngsters fourteen and under, the nostalgia of Old Timers Day for those who've been around a few years, and an Appreciation Day for the entire family.
Tote Bag Day - Saturday, April 30: Leading off these special events is the big Tote Bag give-away which was scheduled for the first time last year. It's a handy little carry-all, big enough for a ball and glove as well as a sandwich - with a bright red, white and blue Yankee emblem on the side and a strap long enough to slip over your shoulder. The 2:00 p.m. start features the new Seattle Mariners making their historic first visit to New York.
Shirt Day - Sunday, May 8: Second on the schedule this spring will be the very popular Shirt Day with the always exciting Oakland Athletics furnishing the opposition at 2:00 p.m. All youngsters will receive a handsome double knit Yankee pinstripe shirt, similar to the uniform shirt worn by the players themselves.
Jacket Day - Saturday, May 28: What youngster wouldn't enjoy wearing one of these slick Yankee jackets that look just like the those worn by Thurman Munson and other Yankee players? It's a blue vinyl windbreaker and free to the younger set. The other attraction that day is Hall of Famer Bob Lemon's Chicago White Sox.
Bat Day - Sunday, June 12: This granddaddy of all equipment give-aways offers free bats for the younger set. The Minnesota Twins challenge the Yankees on the field at 2:00 p.m. Since the Yanks' first Bat Day in 1965, over 750,000 have been distributed to area youngsters.
Old Timers Day - Saturday, August 13: Batting fifth is the biggest hitter in this lineup of special events, the unforgettable Old Timers Day. This will be the 31st year since the Yankees first paraded their former greats in 1947. The nostalgic festivities begin at 1:15 p.m. and are guaranteed to stir the emotions of the most jaded visitor. For two of the particular favorites, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, it will be their 26th and ninth Old Timer appearances, respectively. Facing today's Yankee champions will be the California Angels, whose player shopping spree of last winter seems certain to put them in strong contention.
Fan Appreciation Day - Saturday, October 1: The last of our special events is the day when the Yankees can say thank you with a program of surprises. Included will be a special gift for each fan in attendance plus, we hope, victory over Ralph Houk and the Detroit Tigers."

PITCH, HIT AND RUN
"Major League Baseball will conduct its official youth participation program, Pitch, Hit and Run, nationally this year. Boys and girls between the ages of nine and twelve will compete on four different levels of competition, climaxed by the National finals at the All-Star Game in New York's Yankee Stadium on July 19.
Registration for Pitch, Hit and Run commences April 6 and runs through May 22. Local, district and divisional competition begins in late May and continues through mid-June. Divisional championships will be held in selected major league stadiums. Free entry blanks and Tips Books are available, starting April 6, at all Thom McAn stores and participating dealers throughout the country.
The pitching competition gives each youngster three throws to hit a specifically designed basket at home plate. In hitting, the contestants get three tosses to hit the ball twice, fungo-style. Fly balls are measured from the plate, with one point given for each foot of the longest fly. Entrants are given points in the running event based upon their race against the clock. All contestants must run around the bases, which are 60 feet apart. Only one run per youngster is allowed. Sliding is not permitted.
Winners are determined on a total point basis."

OLD TIMERS' DAY
"The Yankees 31st annual Old Timers Day will take place here at the Stadium on Saturday afternoon, August 13, with the California Angels in town. The Yankees will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1927 Yankees and will honor the 1937, 1947 and 1957 Yankees on the anniversary of their championship years.
The 1937 Yankees beat the Giants four games to one in the World Series, and few fans will be able to forget the 1947 Series that went to seven games before the Yanks came out on top over the Dodgers. The highlight of this dramatic Series was the no-hit bid by the Yankees' Bill Bevens. He held the Dodgers hitless until there were two out in the ninth inning of the fourth game only to have Cookie Lavagetto pinch-hit a double that broke up Bevens' bid and beat the Yanks 3-2.
The 1957 Series featured the classic pitching of the Braves' Lew Burdette as he won three games, and the Braves with a .209 batting average beat the Yanks in seven games to take their first Milwaukee World Championship.
Stars from all of these teams will be back at the baseball highlight of the summer - the Yankees' Old Timers Day."

SENIOR CITIZENS
"The Yankees have set aside seven dates this summer when senior citizens will be guests of the club upon payment of a 50 cent service charge. This special admission is available to all fans who have passed their 60th birthday and includes outfield box seats on the field and loge levels. Wednesday night, April 20 is the first of these dates with the new Toronto Blue Jays as the opposition. Others are scheduled on Saturday, May 7 (Oakland); Saturday, June 11 (Minnesota); Saturday, July 2 (Detroit); Thursday night, July 28 (Baltimore); Saturday, August 27 (Texas); and Saturday, September 10 (Toronto)."

YANKEE ATTENDANCE
"It looks like another banner year for attendance at the 'new' Yankee Stadium. Off-season business was much brisker this past winter than it had been over the past 25 years. At one point, new business was up over 300%, and group sales business was also going strong. Last season, the Yanks' first back at their 'new' home, they drew over 2 million people."

NEW GENERAL ADMISSION SEATS
"The Yankees earlier this season made a new type of General Admission seat available to their fans. In addition to the $1.50 General Admission seat in the bleachers, the Yanks now have a $2.50 Upper Grandstand General Admission seat. At $2.50 and $1.50 for General Admission seats, the Yankees are certainly a great entertainment buy for the entire family."

SCOOTER TEACHES YANKS BUNTING
"Phil Rizzuto, one of the game's greatest bunters over his 13-year major league career, was in uniform once again in the Yankee spring training camp working with the Yankee players on their bunting skills. Bunting is always an integral part of manager Billy Martin's game plan, and there is no better teacher than the Scooter."
